Elephant And Rider
Intuition is an elephant and conscious reasoning its rider: the rider mostly serves the elephant, generating justifications for judgments already made. Moral arguments therefore rarely persuade, because they address the rider, not the elephant.
Six Moral Foundations
Morality is built on care, fairness, liberty, loyalty, authority and sanctity. Political liberals rely mainly on the first three, conservatives use all six, so each side literally tastes morality differently.
Groupish Righteousness
Humans are 90 percent chimp and 10 percent bee: mostly selfish, but capable of losing ourselves in groups. Morality binds teams together and blinds them to their own side's faults.
